Team India for Twenty20 Series

Peeking at the astonishing track record of the Indian national selection committee over the past few months, it is probably impossible to predict their selection style. On Tuesday, it was decided on who would finally plump in and the names were finally revealed.

Going with the overview of the selection, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is supposed to lead the Indian team on the Twenty20 world championship and Yuvraj has been put up as the Vice Captain. The BCCI meeting that was held on the Tuesday, decided on two teams, one that would play against England and the other one for the Twenty20 world cup. This meeting that lasted for about fifty minutes surely brought some good news for Virendra Sehwag and the spinner Harbhajan Singh. Both of them were selected for the team in the Twenty20 world cup after being left out for the match against West Indies this year at Cuttack.

As far as the new faces are concerned, we would get to see Yusuf Pathan, and Joginder Sharma. Looking at the credentials, Joginder is supposed to have a proven track record for his performance at the Twenty20 tournament and Yusuf is Irfan Pathan’s brother. Yusuf Pathan is also known for his outstanding off break bowling.

The biggies of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar already ruled themselves out of the tournament and thence the BCCI was left with a comparatively lighter list of probable players that gave in an opportunity to the other four members.

Selection of Irfan Pathan in the team has surely come as a surprise. However, this selection was made via teleconferencing as Dilip Vengsarkar happened to be in England whereas his colleagues were here.
