Day 1 Preview : Kallis leads the way for South Africa
The first day of the test match between Pakistan and South Africa turned out to be a favorable one for the South African team as Jacques Kallis stroked his way to a subtle century. This morning the match began amidst the hot Karachi weather and Graeme Smith won the toss and elected to bat. His decision was well applauded when his squad ended up with a total of 294 with the loss of just three wickets. The hot and humid weather along with the slow pitch made it really difficult for the bowlers to get the right pitch. The result was a lot of short balls. Jacques Kallis took his time to get started off the match and once settled, the audience was offered a nice worth with his proficient strokes and fluent consistency.
There was a steady partnership between Kallis and Hasin Amla that ended up adding 170 runs on the board for South Africa. Within 147 balls, Kallis was on his century mark. But one cannot forget the contribution made by the openers Smith and Gibbs. Pakistani bowlers Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul were punished at every bad ball and in turn there was a quick 50 run mark on the scoreboard early in the series. Thus with Kallis unbeaten at 118 and with his test match experience, tomorrow’s match is surely going to be worth a watch…
