India Vs Australia - 1st Test Match at Melbourne - Day 1 Review

By Cricket ~ December 26th, 2007. Filed under: Australia, India, Test Match, cricket.

The first day at Melbourne shall be remembered by a lot of spectators at the Royal Arena stadium. At last, Australia has been challenged pretty well by the men in blue. Before the start of the match, India was beleived to be one of the last teams to seriously challenge Australia. However, with an enormous spell by the Indian skipper Anil kumble who grabbed 5 wickets for a mere 84 runs.

At the end of the play, Australia were 9 for 337 with Mitchell Johnson on 10 and Stuart Clarke at 21. It was Kumble who denied a comfortable century for Matthew Hayden who holds a record of centuries on the boxing day test matches. At the same time when Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds were playing, there were a lot of hopes in the Australian side for putting up a huge score but Anil Kumble took care of that in the final session of the match and then the lower order fell away pretty effortlessly. In one session, Kumble threatened the Australians by grabbing 3 wickets for 30 runs.

It is going to be an interesting haul tomorrow to watch the game progressing further as Australia is amongst those teams who do not accept challenges so easily.
